Dental Implants, Porcelain Veneers, Teeth Whitening and More — Naperville and Aurora, Illinois

Maybe your smile is not as stunning as you’d like it to be or as bright as it once was. Years of coffee-drinking, cigarette-smoking, teeth-grinding, and the simple wear and tear of aging can take their toll on a person’s pearly whites. Besides, nobody’s perfect. Whether your dental problems are large or small, you should know that with all of the advances in cosmetic and general dentistry, it’s never been easier to have beautiful, healthy teeth. Teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, dental implants, and full mouth reconstruction are just a few of the options available to patients in Naperville, Aurora, and throughout Illinois at Dr. Henley’s general dentistry practice.

Dr. Henley and his skilled staff can return your smile to its original luster – or make it look better than you ever imagined possible. Contact our office today to schedule a consultation, and let us introduce you to some of our most popular treatments, including:

Zoom!® Teeth Whitening

Regardless of how frequently you brush your teeth or how carefully you avoid tooth-staining culprits such as coffee, tea, and cigarettes, it’s almost inevitable that your teeth will become discolored with age. Perhaps that’s why in-office teeth whitening is among the most requested procedures at our Naperville practice. While the market is flooded with products that claim to possess tooth whitening abilities, Dr. Henley prefers the speed and convenience of the Zoom!® teeth whitening system. As its name implies, Zoom!® works remarkably fast, resulting in teeth that are up to eight shades brighter after just one 90-minute session.

The Zoom!® teeth whitening process begins with a thorough examination of your teeth and gums to ensure that you are a good candidate for the treatment. Then, Dr. Henley paints the special teeth whitening gel on your teeth and exposes them to a special light which activates the gel’s whitening power. This light helps the gel penetrate the teeth to remove deep stains and discolorations. After your teeth have been exposed to the light for a specific amount of time, the gel is washed off and you will see dramatically whiter teeth that can last up to three years!

If you would like to learn more about having your teeth lightened with the Zoom!® system, contact Dr. Henley for a teeth whitening consultation at his practice in Naperville.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic material that, when bonded onto damaged or discolored tooth enamel, form a durable artificial surface that looks incredibly natural. The translucent nature of porcelain allows light to shine through to your tooth, creating an extremely natural appearance. Though the name makes them sound extremely delicate, porcelain veneers are strong enough to be treated like regular teeth. While natural teeth are porous and thus susceptible to stains that get trapped inside microscopic cracks and crevices in the enamel, porcelain’s smooth, glass-like properties render these dental veneers nearly impervious to discoloration.

We use porcelain veneers at our practice in Naperville, near Aurora, Illinois to fix chipped, cracked, worn, or discolored teeth, as well as to fill in small gaps between teeth and fix slight misalignments. We begin the porcelain veneer placement process by lightly etching the front surface of the tooth to prepare it for the veneer. We then make an impression of the prepared tooth and use it to custom craft your veneer. We take special care in matching the color of your veneer to your surrounding teeth for a natural appearance. Once the veneer is ready, it is bonded onto the front of your tooth.

If you are interested in porcelain veneers, schedule a consultation at Dr. Henley’s practice in Naperville, near Aurora, Illinois.

Dental Implants

For some people, the security of permanently placed teeth trumps all other dental needs. Dental implants - durable titanium posts anchored to the jawbone and topped with a replacement tooth - pick up where traditional dentures leave off. Dental implants can replace a single missing tooth, a small bridge, or partial dentures. They look and feel so much like real teeth that many dental implants patients at our Naperville practice forget that they’re not their own. Best of all, because dental implants are integrated into the jaw, they can actually prevent bone loss and gum recession – two classic drawbacks to dentures and bridgework.

Although Dr. Henley does not perform the surgery required to place the dental implants in the jaw bone, he does craft the replacement tooth that fits on top of the posts. If you are new to dental implants, we can suggest a reputable periodontist to perform the surgery to place implant posts. Dr. Henley can also create new artificial teeth for his patients who already have dental implants to replace their worn artificial teeth.

No longer does an empty space in your smile translate to a lifetime of pain, embarrassment, and inconvenience. Schedule a dental implants consultation at our Naperville practice today to learn if this tooth replacement option is right for you.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

For patients experiencing complex structural problems with their teeth and jaw, severely affecting the bite and appearance of the face, our talented staff can perform an elaborate full mouth reconstruction. Similar to a smile makeover, the full mouth reconstruction addresses a range of dental issues, from worn and cracked teeth, to gaps and misalignments that make chewing and speaking difficult. As a general dentist with special training in orthodontics and neuromuscular dentistry, Dr. Henley has the experience to perform complex full mouth reconstructions for his patients.

Dr. Henley has a range of options available for a full mouth reconstruction at his Naperville practice. When a tooth has irreparable damage or is missing, he may replace it with a dental implant and natural-looking artificial tooth. He may also place porcelain veneers or dental crowns on teeth that are worn, chipped, cracked, or otherwise damaged. To fix slight misalignments and gaps, he may be able to use veneers, or may suggest treatment with Invisalign® for more complex cases.

If you have multiple dental issues and structural problems, the best treatment option may be a full mouth reconstruction. Contact our general dentistry practice in Naperville to schedule a consultation with Dr. Henley to determine if full mouth reconstruction is right for you.

Laser Dentistry

Thanks to a host of new applications involving lasers, devices that generate a very concentrated beam of light can be directed into the mouth with tremendous accuracy. Through laser dentistry, dentists are able to perform a variety of procedures with an ease and efficiency that were not possible in the past. For example, we can now perform gum surgery without Novocain and with only minimal bleeding.

Precise, sterile, and highly effective, dental lasers are quickly becoming an integral part of contemporary dental practices. Dr. Henley and his staff are trained in some of the most advanced tools in this ever-developing field, including KaVo DIAGNOdent®, Waterlase® MD, and LaserSmile™ teeth whitening.

KaVo DIAGNOdent®

The laser technology of KaVo DIAGNOdent® allows us to detect cavities as early as possible so that we can treat them before they reach a more threatening stage. The KaVo DIAGNOdent® laser, a painless and noninvasive tool, is first directed at healthy tooth material for a baseline reading. By comparing the rest of your teeth with this healthy tooth reading, we can seek out grooves, fine lines, and suspicious curves that could signify a problem in the making. When the laser encounters an abnormal surface, it emits a fluorescent light, alerting us to a potential cavity that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye.

Waterlase® MD

With Waterlase® MD, shrieking drills and painful injections are no longer an issue for patients who’ve shied away from the dentist’s chair in the past. This pain-free device lets us perform cavity preparation, root canals, and some mouth surgeries using only the combination of water and laser technology. Usually, no anesthesia is required, and the patient is not subjected to the excessive heat, vibration, or high-pitched buzz of traditional dental drills. The precision of the Waterlase® laser means that very little healthy tooth structure is sacrificed during repairs, and the tool naturally disinfects as it cuts, reducing the chance for contamination by bacteria in the mouth.

LaserSmile™

A professional in-office teeth whitening method, the LaserSmile™ process uses a hydrogen peroxide-based bleaching gel that is formulated to interact with the specific wavelength of the LaserSmile™ laser. The teeth whitening treatments usually take less than an hour at our practice in Naperville, as the combination of gel and laser dramatically cuts down on the amount of time it takes to whiten teeth.

Biostimulation Lasers

Our office is excited to offer this new non-surgical application of lasers that takes the edge off treatments ranging from root canal treatment to routine fillings. Directing the beam of a low-level laser onto recently treated mouth tissue results in an increase in blood flow that hastens healing, reduces swelling, and dulls pain receptors. Biostimulation also stimulates the production of “good” enzymes, which aid in cell rejuvenation.

Restorations with CEREC®

Gone are the days when tooth restorations required multiple visits to the dentist, hours in the chair, and an unpleasant series of dental impressions, fittings, and adjustments. CEREC®, which is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, uses sophisticated computer technology to digitally photograph your teeth and create a precise restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material that matches the natural color of your existing teeth. With CEREC® technology, we can create your porcelain veneers and crowns at our Naperville practice in about an hour.

Neuromuscular Dentistry (TMJ Treatment)

When the jaw does not properly align with the skull, TMJ disorders may develop. Dr. Henley is a general dentist who has special training in the treatment of TMJ disorders, including neuromuscular dentistry which addresses the health and position of the jaw. He can help you determine if your headaches, neck pain, chronic tinnitus (ringing in the ears), or other uncomfortable symptoms are due to TMJ disorder.

TMJ Evaluation – K7 CMS

Through a thorough exam and x-rays, Dr. Henley will help identify the source of your pain and then prescribe the appropriate treatment. Dr. Henley also uses the K7 CMS (Computerized Mandibular Scanning) unit to track how the jaw functions. This lightweight device fits over the head to record jaw motions in three dimensions and record the torque of your TMJ. K7 is a valuable tool in the science and practice of neuromuscular dentistry and has been essential in TMJ treatment that has improved so many lives.

TMJ Treatment

There are several effective treatments for TMJ disorders. The majority of patients find relief simply by resting the TMJ and learning how to consciously control their clenching and grinding impulses. Special nighttime mouthguards can be designed to stop any damage the patient inflicts while asleep. Dental splints can also be fitted to the patient’s mouth. These plastic mouthpieces fit over the top or bottom teeth to relieve pressure during the day.

Orthodontics Offered by Our General Dentist

Established in 1900 as dentistry’s first specialty, orthodontics deals with the problems caused by misaligned teeth, or malocclusions. By moving teeth with gradual, precise force, orthodontists can straighten crooked or crowded teeth, correct uneven jaws, and repair the ravages of hereditary problems such as overbites, underbites, and crossbites. More than just an aesthetic embarrassment, uneven teeth are difficult to clean and maintain, which could contribute to tooth decay, gum disease, abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, and even chronic headaches.

Though always better to tackle malocclusions early in life, it’s never too late to have a beautiful, healthy smile. As a general dentist with special training in the diagnosis and treatment of some orthodontic problems, Dr. Henley offers his patients both traditional metal braces and more discreet tooth-straightening treatments, such as Invisalign®. Invisalign® is a revolutionary system that uses a series of clear, removable aligners that are custom-molded to fit your mouth.
