General Dentistry Aurora

There's a lot of excitement swirling around dentists' offices these days; cosmetic dentistry has opened so many doors for patients who want to create beautiful smiles through new and extraordinary means. But at the core of professional dental care, the common goal of good oral health still remains. Office exams, regular cleanings, x-rays, fillings, and extractions are just a few of the procedures that fall under the heading of general dentistry (sometimes called family dentistry). At our Aurora and Naperville-based practice, we provide these services, as well as cosmetic and restorative treatments, for the benefit of our patients.

General Dentistry Services

Office Exams

Our dental practice features the most advanced technology, such as premier X-Ray and laser dentistry equipment, and a seasoned general dentistry expert in Dr. Carl Henley. In the comfort of our office, Aurora and Naperville residents can rest assured that they will receive the most accurate diagnosis and preventive care. We encourage our patients to visit us on a consistent basis to most proactively maintain oral health.

Regular Cleanings

What better way to keep your smile in top form than with a regular cleaning? We use the latest tools to provide for your maximum comfort while thoroughly cleansing and polishing your teeth. The removal of plaque will help your teeth shine, prevent cavities from forming, and protect you from periodontal disease. For optimal oral hygiene, routine cleanings and checkups are highly emphasized by our dentist, as well as frequent brushing and flossing.

Fillings

Dr. Henley can clear out decay and mend cavities with tooth-colored fillings. This type of dental restoration is extremely common, used to restore function and integrity to the tooth structure affected by decay. The dentist will carefully apply the restorative fillings material after he has prepared your tooth by making space for it and clearing out any decay or heavily weakened portions of the tooth. Once the filling is in place, he will make sure it syncs aesthetically and functionally with the rest of your smile.

Extractions

A dental extraction refers to the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Reasons for needing an extraction vary: it may be due to extensive decay, for the removal of wisdom teeth, issues of overcrowding and misalignment, or sever gum diseases. Dr. Henley performs simple extractions for teeth that are visible in the mouth. If you require the removal of wisdom teeth, which falls outside of the scope of general dentistry, our dentist can gladly refer you to an Aurora-area oral surgeon. Anyone with dental anxiety should know that we offer sedation dentistry to alleviate nerves and discomfort.

Neuromuscular Dentistry (TMJ Treatment)

When the jaw does not properly align with the skull, TMJ disorder may develop. Dr. Henley is a general dentist who has special training in the treatment of TMJ disorders, including neuromuscular dentistry which addresses the health and position of the jaw. He can help you determine if your headaches, neck pain, chronic tinnitus (ringing in the ears), or other uncomfortable symptoms are due to TMJ disorder.

TMJ Evaluation - K7 CMS

Through a thorough exam and use of X-rays, Dr. Henley will help identify the source of your pain and then prescribe the appropriate treatment. Dr. Henley also uses the K7 CMS (Computerized Mandibular Scanning) unit to track how the jaw functions. This lightweight device fits over the head to record jaw motions in three dimensions and record the torque of your TMJ. K7 is a valuable tool in the science and practice of neuromuscular dentistry and has been essential in the TMJ treatment that has improved so many lives.

TMJ Treatment

There are several effective treatments for TMJ disorders. The majority of patients find relief simply by resting the temporomandibular joint and learning how to consciously control their clenching and grinding impulses. Special nighttime mouth guards can be designed to prevent clenching and stop any damage the patient may inflict while asleep. Dental splints can also be fitted to the patient's mouth. These plastic mouthpieces fit over the top or bottom teeth to relieve pressure during the day.
